Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s Café Lumière (2003) pays direct tribute to Ozu Yasujiro’s Tokyo Story (1953). Set in contemporary Japan however, Hou translates the universal themes of Ozu – family, time, death, tradition – in to the modern day.
